Elizabeth Alexander composed a poem called “Praise Song for the Day” for today’s historic inauguration of the nation’s first African American president.  Imagine stepping  up to that podium following President Obama’s address –  and what about writing for a specific occasion with such a huge audience – talk about a high pressure writing assignment!

One blogger for About.com has already posted the text of the poem (albeit with one typo).  If you had received the request to write such a poem, what would you have said?  More of Alexander’s poems are available via her web site and at Poets.org.
