Borrowing privileges

All MLWGS students and faculty - as long as you complete a registration form each year by the deadline publicized at MLWGS, Ms. Sellors will submit your form to VCU so you can enjoy high school borrowing privileges at the James Branch Cabell and Tompkins-McCaw Libraries. These privileges require a photo ID (but not necessarily a VCU photo ID) and are equivalent to those of community borrowers who pay $50 per year. With these privileges come responsibilities. Here are a few highlights:

  • Maximum of 10 items at any given time
  • Most materials circulate 28 days
  • One renewal is permitted as long as the user has no overdue items and no other users have placed a hold on the item to be renewed
  • Overdue fines are 25ยข per item per day (maximum of $10 per item)
  • Minimum replacement fine is $70 per item
  • Fines for damaged materials vary; minimum is $10 per item
  • High school users may access VCU’s electronic resources (e.g. online databases) from the computers in the VCU libraries as long as a regular VCU user does not need the workstation (yes, you may be “bumped”)

Students enrolled in VCU dual-enrollment courses have the same level of borrowing privileges as undergraduates (see center column of chart - the one with the yellow background). In addition, they can connect to VCU’s electronic resources off-campus with their VCU eID username and password.

Additional services for MLWGS faculty
You may request multimedia items not available to high school borrowers (such as videos and DVDs in Cabell Library) through inter-library loan. The same overdue and lost item fees apply as those listed above. You are responsible for returning the item to VCU on time. To make a request, please complete and sign a Multimedia Item Request Form and submit it to Ms. Sellors.
